Description
A rafter square, also called a framing or carpenter’s square, is a large flat steel L-shaped square used to mark and check right angles on wide boards, sheet material and frames, and to set out rafters, stair stringers and roof pitches. The larger 400 x 600mm square suits roof and frame work, while the 200 x 300mm size is handier for cabinets and general workshop use.
Lay the square flat with both legs against the work and mark along the outside edge. Store it flat or hanging so the legs do not get bent out of square.
