Description

A 5 x 60mm wood screw with a smooth (unthreaded) upper shank and a cutting point. The smooth shank lets the top piece slide down the screw, so the thread bites only into the lower piece and pulls the two tight together. That makes it the right choice for joining timber to timber, or a metal bracket to timber.

This is the loose-sold version of a screw that comes in an 800-piece box from the maker. In hardwood, drill a pilot hole first so the timber does not split, and drive the screw in straight.
